Free Frugal Family Fun Activities Ebook

There's nothing I love better than doing fun activities with my kids. Admittedly, many of ours have included arts and crafts in the mix because of my artsy bent, lol. But frugality has always been important to us considering our low budget. Activities with my family make my fondest memories. How about you?
One of my favorite idea sources has been "Family Fun" magazine, for instance. Now, Jim Erskine has added to the mix with his latest freebie offering:  "Our Favorite Family Fun Activities -- Volume One: At Home!" The ideas are fun for families of all kinds, whether homeschooling or not.
Here's how he describes this fun resource: " in Volume One we have a great collection of “real life” ideas for fun, frugal activities for the family – when you want to have a fun evening or afternoon AT HOME."
"Entertaining the family doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.  (You can save those to buy gasoline.)  There are all sorts of creative ways for the Family to have fun, be together, and spend little if any money.  All it takes is a little resourcefulness, creativity, an open mind and a young heart.  After all, nothing’s better than laughing with your family, and laughs are free."

One of my favorites in the 12-page PDF is the Treasure Hunt idea. I have so many wonderful memories of treasure hunts we've made in our family. We even do Christian-theme treasure hunts at Easter. (Search Easter for that post here on this website soon.)

In honor of the 2012 Summer Olympics going on right now, I have several freebies and resources related to it today:

-  Homeschool Freebie of the Day announced today that Knowledge Quest has a fun project for your kids to work on during the Olympic Games that, as Knowledge Quest describes it, "will give them an outlet for their creative energy after they have expended their physical energy trying some of the gymnastic stunts or sprinting feats across your living room floor.
Their My Country Book will help your children record their favorite Olympic moments while reinforcing their geography knowledge and providing an interesting keepsake notebook to enjoy when it is finished.
I think my favorite part of their multi-PDF downloads is their full-color flash cards of Olympic countries, but all are really nice.

-     ABC Teach has many Summer Olympics activities for classroom or homeschool, several of which are cool and free. (I like the word search in the shape of an athlete.)  Check out their blog here:  They have a host of fun games and learning activities that the whole family can use.

To join in the festivities, abcteach has also been doing their own Olympic countdown (check their FB page)!

-  -  Here some cool bits of historical Olympic ephemera that I found on the web for you:

Free WordBoggle Android Video Game App Download for Android or Try Free on Your Computer

WordBoggle
WordBoggle     Here's another reason I wish I had an android phone. I found this freebie for you. This time, though, us non-android owners can at least try it out and play it on the Amazon Cloud! (See below)

I love the Boggle word game. It keeps the mind fresh, I think. And I need all the world I can get. :)

Either the board game or this app would also be great for homeschooling, I think.
Here's more info on the portable one according to Amazon, and the link for you to get yours:

Product Features

  • Easy-to-use interface
  • Keeps track of words made and their individual values
  • Two board sizes

Product Description
Boggle is one of the most-beloved word games ever produced. This Boggle clone brings the same basic concept to your Android phone. Simply tap on the letters to create words--the longer the word, the more points you score. You also get extra points for using less-common letters such as V, K, X, Q, and Z.

If you make a mistake it's easy to backtrack and start again. All games are untimed, so you don't have to feel pressured (although you can always use an external clock to limit your session). At any point during the game you can click on the settings to see a list of the words you've found and their point totals.
You can click here to get yours free now:

This app is not only fun, it develops your brain at the same time. How many words can you find? Just thinking about it boggles the mind.
What's new in version 1.4
  • Features coming soon include a high scores table, a timed mode, and online play against friends.

Available instantly for your Android device

Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

Here are some other fun Word Games for all ages. Some are free and some aren't:
